Utthāna Ekādaśī kirtan with Binode Bihari Baba

  


This is Binod Bihari Das Babaji Maharaj's annual event at the end of the Karttik vrata on Utthāna Ekādaśī, which last year (2021) fell on November 15. I had the good fortune to be at this event in 2019, BC (before Covid). It doesn't look like Covid was an issue this time around. It looks like Braj has just gotten bored and tired of all the Covid hysteria.

That night went by like a flash. Listening to this four-hour video you can feel that special all-nighter mood. But it is still very sāttvika and very blissful. He has excellent musicians accompanying him on this video. It is so nice to see him all covered in flowers and to witness his deep bhāva. 

Relax and let it flow. Jai Radhe. I am so glad that all this was recorded. Babaji Maharaj is better than ever and it is so edifying to see his deep bhava. These are songs that he himself composed. Watch and see why Babaji is so honored in Braj. When you hear kirtan like this you realize how few people have  still grasped the essence of sankirtan. This is what happens when a bhajana-niṣṭha Vaishnava does kirtan.

Mahamantra at about 2.45 hour mark. 3.30 মোদের প্রাণ গৌর রে moder pran gaura re ! This would be at about 2.30-3 a.m. of the jāgaraṇa. It really has that middle of the night feel. It reminds me of times in Nabadwip when I would get up in the middle of the night when 24 kirtan was going on because I just liked that midnight kirtan feel.

Ooh, he gets the low notes. Someone just went वाह! and I am right there with him. This is one of the best kirtans ever. I think I will just leave it on day and night forever.

Swami Vishwananda's Bhakti Marga and Parampara

It has been a little strange here at Jiva these past few days. Swami Vishwananda is here with his troupe of disciples, of whom there are a goodly number, perhaps 80 or so. When I arrived in Vrindavan already a couple of weeks back, almost the first thing I noticed at the corner of Mathura Road and the Parikrama Marg was a big billboard with Swami Vishwananda’s charming smile and glowing tilak staring charismatically out at the world and announcing that he would be giving darshan on March 8 at the Jiva Institute. Below him, in a smaller frame was Satyanarayana Dasa Babaji, who besides being his host will be speaking on the Bhāgavatam at the darshan event. This is not the first time that Vishwananda and his group have been at Jiva. Satyanarayana Dasaji calls Vishwananda a friend, and indeed the relations between the two are very cordial. Erotic sculptures on Jagannath temple

This was written on the basis of Sundarananda Vidyavinode's Sri Kshetra and intended for a devotee audience, as it was done on a commission by disciples of Bhakti Promode Puri Maharaj. It has never been published. I decided to put this on line since there was a discussion on Facebook on the subject and I thought I would revisit what I wrote here nearly twenty years ago. This is from chapter ten on temple renovations. Please note that I have removed the images that I had found of some of the sculptures. I have been blocked from posting links to this blog on Facebook for some infringement of its "community standards".
