I've been wondering what has transpired in the Montreal temple since my departure (I was there for the first six months of 1982 in the women's ashram, took part in temple life, sankirtana, and took a field trip to New Vrindavan). I liked learning about the philosophy (though I'll admit that most of it went over my head, and as sleep deprived as I was, I'm surprised anything stuck) and its devotional nature, but found some of the dogma archaic (in the same way, say, not eating pork if you're Jewish seems like it would have been a good idea when refrigeration was unavailable and its potential to make people ill, but how that wouldn't be the case in modern times). I recently got curious about the movement again, and started doing some research... I was very surprised at how close it has come to collapsing. In a world that would need an injection of a good dose of spirituality as an antidote to its rampant materialism, in its ideal state, the movement could have provided some relief. It's hard being human, I guess, even in the midst of a spiritual movement.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31351038.post-35307512461055238992022-12-08T11:57:52.828-05:002022-12-08T11:57:52.828-05:00Interestingly, the revered Swami Ramsukhdas Ji, wh...Interestingly, the revered Swami Ramsukhdas Ji, whose legendary commentary in Hindi on the Bhagavad Gītā (published by the Gita Press) is second to none in my opinion, recommended to not accept a guru in these times. He emphasized on nāma-japa and direct connection with Bhagavān. What a predicament.

One needs a little bit of sensitive to notice this predicament. Young men and women are occupied with getting laid (which ISKCON demonizes) or a good career prospect. Few pay careful attention to the naive philosophy taught at such so called divine education centers. Nothing is divine about these centres except that they propagate the Name. The brahmacharis are so terrified of sex that they would denigrate women in closed chambers -- in guise of brahmachari meetings -- but fail to get away with thoughts of women. I recently heard a famous brahmachari mentioning he was not sure for how long be would be able to maintain celibacy. Who told you to be a celibate? Who told lust and sex were innately bad? Your ignorant masters. And you sheepishly believed them. This is blind following.

A lot can be said about this rampant nonsense in ISKCON. For sometime later.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31351038.post-7734363763096849442018-11-17T21:08:51.676-05:002018-11-17T21:08:51.676-05:00I see the following reasons for why people are han...I see the following reasons for why people are handicapped to leaving ISKCON even after getting a hint at 'something is wrong here':

1.FEAR:If you leave you are disrespecting the authority, which has been delegated by the founding Acharya, and thus you are indulging in something more grievous than sin -- aparādha.

2.BLIND FAITH: My authority is beyond contempt. Let me put my intelligence to sleep.

3.EMOTIONAL BLACKMAIL: By the authority.

4.FOOD AND SHELTER : Better to hang around here than work and find a job. "Sarva dharman parityajya" applied off context.

5. POWER OF HUDDLING: Intellect gets deluded as a result of associating with like-minded fanatics.

Thank you for your writings, I sincerely appreciate them.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
